Minneapolis/St. Paul

AUGUST 13-17, 2018

TL;DR: St. Paul is home to not only our good friends (and their adorable baby and pup, Mr. Bear), but also our new favorite neighborhood bar, Stewart’s. We also squeezed in one of the 10,000 lakes, but were a bit too busy enjoying ourselves to take many pictures.

THE SIGHTS

Mississippi River Trail

The bike/walking path winds along the Mississippi River that separates St. Paul and Minneapolis. The route is beautiful and riddled with a ton of sneaky hills, and quite a few bike-friendly bridges.

Lake Calhoun AKA Bde Maka Ska

We figured we should visit at least one. So we drove over to Lake Calhoun, which is now officially Lake Bde Maka Ska. It was surrounded by a ton of cool houses with huge front lawns. We were amongst bikers, walkers, roller-bladers, and dog-walkers going around the very easy, well-maintained, three-mile path.

DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS

Endless WiFi is a lovely thing. Don’t take it for granted.

Had a delicious breakfast sandwich with our good college friend Emily, who gave us a hot tip that cold Minnesota winters are long and brutal. Noted.

Wilson and Willy’s is a very adorable store for leather goods, candles, jewelry, and more fun gifts. If you’re in St. Paul, go there now. #notanad

AND THEN THIS HAPPENED…

We went out to get booze for our host and hostess for the week—Jimmy and Beth—and after helping us choose all different types of beer and wine, the friggin’ guy wouldn’t sell it to us because Jess didn’t have her ID (even though Brian had his). Why bother helping us!? Humph.

The bikes hadn’t been used in a bit and took WAY longer to get ready than we anticipated… Jess’s gear was bent, so we tended to that. As soon as we got going, we realized Bri needed air in his tires. Thirty minutes later, we were off.

NOW WE KNOW

Leaving the bikes in the back of Layla does a number on ’em. Gotta leave a time cushion for a tune-up.

Vegan tacos can be quite delicious (Thanks, Beth!).

A good neighborhood spot can really make the neighborhood. (See: Stewart’s)

We like the Peloton. (Thanks Jimmy and Beth!)

ROAD FOOD

STEWART’S! Went here twice. Would go back every week if we could.

Cecil’s: Great Jewish deli. Made the mistake of being starving when we took photos, so they’re a bit… rushed, shall we say?

WHERE WE STAYED

Our dear friend Beth and Jimmy’s. Let’s just say it was a little slice of heaven.

JUST SHOW ME THE PICTURES ALREADY
